VIOFO Dashcam Review

VIOFO Dashcam Review

Welcome to my first product review,

I feel like everyone, at some point in their life, used to watch Unbox Therapy on YouTube and think that "Damn, what a life, just get sent items, open them and make videos and make money doing just that". Well, this is my version of that.

For the longest time, I have been in the limbo of whether or not I get a dashcam. Anytime I would watch 'Dashcams Australia', you would see stuff that, otherwise, would be almost impossible to prove if not for the dashcam. But the problem was, everything was so expensive, and people were charging crazy amounts to install them.

However, I think my realisation for the importance of the dashcam grew more and more as I upgraded my cars. With the amount of rubbish drivers on the road, I felt it was more important than ever to have one. At the end of the day, a lot of the accidents that happen are never your fault, so you need to make sure you can be protected with evidence.

But, that is the boring part of dashcams. The best part is when you do something crazy (allegedly), you can go back and relive that moment because the dashcam caught it. Whether you are running up the touge with the boys, or you hit the fattest pothole (because Melbourne roads are a mess), or if you are just trying to see where in the hell the piece of your undertray went after an alleged top speed run (not me). So, anyways I finally got one.

The VIOFO A229 plus. What's so good about these, in my opinion, is the cost of them. They are very reasonably priced for what they achieve. Plus, if you get their hardwire kit, and you can do everything yourself.

p.s It is a lot simpler if you tap into the passenger footwell fuse box in the M3, than going to the one under the rear seats as then you are having to chop and frankenstein the wires. Ill show a photo below, but do not judge me, it's not my proudest work, but i made it happen.

Look at the amount of crimps. I love crimps (I ran short of wire lol)

But yeh, back to the point. Very easy to install, and the quality is honestly pretty good on them, they have built in GPS, G sensors, Wifi, you name it. They even have a phone app that you can connect to, which I thought was quite useful as it makes the user experience so much easier when you can adjust everything on the phone screen rather than dashcam.

One thing tho I will mention that I really like about the A229 Plus is the size of the rear camera. It is a nice sleek size so you do not notice it as much and it actually looks somewhat good.

So, all in all, I think that if you are considering getting a dashcam, I would start of with this as it has very good value for money, easy to install and simple UI.

If you are keen, you can purchase it directly here: https://amzn.to/4tY3MLH. The link is also in the products page (I do earn a small commission so I would appreciate if you do use it! #ecommerce type beat)

Also, dont forget to also get their hardwire kit and SD card (has to be high endurance). I think 128gb SD card is usually enough but you can also go for the 256gb one if you got deep pockets.

128 GB: https://amzn.to/4dVT83t

256 GB: https://amzn.to/4sOHUkZ

The hardwire kit (HK4) is directly from VIOFO themselves but its got everything you need, and they ship pretty quick.

This wraps up my first review. Let's see how we go, might keep doing this, but maybe change up the style as I go.
