S15 vs M3. My dilemma.

S15 vs M3. My dilemma.

Welcome to my second official brain dump. I hope you enjoyed my introduction on DMGRGE as a platform.

Now, you may be wondering what the hell I am talking about comparing the Nissan Silvia S15 to the BMW F80 M3. Don't worry, my friends all judge me on this take too.

Let me give you some context.

So for the longest time, the Nissan Silvia S15 has been my dream car. One of those that has been my wallpapers for years and years on end. One of those cars I would legit pick over a lot of other cars when brought up in conversation. Just something about it had an appeal that no other car did. (Some may say I even picked it over the R34 GTR, Lambo's, you name it). It was my obsession, and proper life goal to own one.

This is legit the exact wallpaper I had on my laptop screen for years on years.

Fast forward a couple of years, and cycling through a variety of cars ranging from Subies, to IS200's, S13, E36, Crown, and many more, there was always a gap. Something missing. With every car, I couldn't see myself with it over one year, and thats what happened. I bought a car, enjoyed it for a year or so, and then got bored of it so then sold it.

Then came a time quite recently where I was finishing up with uni, and had landed my first engineering job (that's right, your boy is an educated mf). As a result of that, came the thoughts of having to travel more for work and needing a little nicer car to pull up to client meetings with, and so forth (even though no one would proabably even ever see my car lol).

Naturally, I was thinking that I need a car which will provide more comfort in longer travels, has the tech I need, is 4 door (you know 4 doors for more... nvm), somewhat fuel efficient and has an automatic transmission (don't judge me) for the atrocious Melbourne peak hour traffic. (p.s. trust me, I daily'd a manual E36 when I would go to uni in peak hour traffic, and it was not fun).

Anyways, I now had to think of what options I can get. Do I get an auto chaser, or 1JZ crown or something along those lines. Then, came the topic again of technology, comfort, and all that. Plus, I feel like it was a crime to get an auto chaser. So then, my head shifted towards euros. I am thinking maybe 428i's, or 3 series bimmers. I looked for a while for those, but there was just some unease within me on those cars. The looks, the feel, idk. It was just not sitting right with me. A gut feeling of a sort. Despite the copium I kept trying to do to convince myself that it was good, it just didnt sit right with me.

Okay, putting this on hold for a second, lets back track once again real quick.

While I had the unconditional love for the jdm scene, there was that one video yearss back of this Gold M4 drifting I came across on YouTube. (I think every car guy has seen that video). Since then, I had a new found love for the F82 M4.  After watching a bunch of build videos and seeing the craziest builds, this became the second dream car. I needed that M4.

This exact M4 ahaha

Fast forward a couple of years, after moving from a 4 door car down to a 2 door car, I had the urge for wanting to get a car with 4 doors again. To be honest, my reasoning for that is so I can take my mates, my family and all in the car with me whenever I want. (Mind you, 99% of my travels in my car are just me lol). But anyways I needed the 4 doors. It became a non negotiable.

So now, the M4 was out of question, but then I saw the M3. Omg. I fell hard. I saw it and was like, this is it. The ultimate car. Looks were unmatched, 4 doors, comfortable, quick. So since then (probably 2-3 years ago) I knew that one day I will own an F80 M3. It became my second dream car.

Well, now I officially own a F80 M3 (alhamdulillah) which, to be honest, still feels absolutely unreal. I have had the car for around 8 months or so, and it has truly felt unreal. It is stupidly quick, it has 4 doors, has all the technology, is decent-ish on fuel, has the comp wheels, is a DCT, has the carbon roof, white guts, everything. It legit ticked all my boxes. The ultimate daily.

However, I am nearing the one year intrusive thought period where I tend to start getting bored of my cars and wanting something else. Now, one may say how can I get bored of the car that is my dream car. You know, the one. Well, because maybe it isn't the one.

This is where my controversial take comes in. Every now and then, I get the intrusive thought to sell my M3 and get into a S15. Am I crazy? Maybe.

Let me explain. Honestly, my ultimate dream car, from day one has always been the S15. There is just something about it, the modern classic look, the interior, sound, aura. Everything.

The S15 is a car which I have looked at everyday for essentially all of high school, and uni thinking one day I'll buy one. The car that truly makes me feel like 10 year old me again. The car that gives me a nostalgia that I never experienced. It puts me back into that scene, that vibe of when I first saw the car in Tokyo Drift.

Maybe it's the feeling I am chasing, but the car is just gorgeous, and in my eyes, no other car can compare to it.

Don't get me wrong though, I am immensely grateful to be able to have the M3, which was essentially my second dream car. But, I just think that there is a feeling of the S15 that is truly unmatched. It is one of those cars that I will never get the feeling of boredness from. I think once I buy one, I will never sell it. Can I say the same for the M3? I cannot really say that with full confidence.

What a weird world huh.

But yeah, this is the dilemma I find myself in. I think my ultimate goal would be to have both, where the M3 is the daily, and the S15 is the true enthusiast, enjoyment, weekender type car. Who knows, maybe that is what I will do. Although I need to do that before prices get even more out of control :/

I wonder if any of you guys (or gals) reading this feel a similar way. Or maybe I am an odd unit.

Anyways, idk if anyone would even read this far, but if you have, I really appreciate it and hope you have an amazing day, morning, night, whatever it is.

See you in the next one :)
